Get your radio serial number from the screen without removing the radio

Why You Need the Serial Number

If your car radio is locked and asking for a code, you need the radio's serial number to generate the correct unlock code. Most people assume this means removing the radio from the dashboard - but that is not always the case.

Many vehicles from Porsche, Ford, Honda/Acura, and Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep allow you to retrieve the serial number directly from the radio display using simple button combinations or hidden menus.

No tools required. Every method in this guide works without removing your radio or using any special equipment. Just your fingers and the radio's built-in buttons or touchscreen.

Porsche: Show the Serial Number on the Screen

Porsche CR-220 / CDR-220

  1. Turn the radio OFF.
  2. Press and hold the TP button for approximately 10 seconds.
  3. Turn the radio ON - "Becker 1" appears on the display.
  4. Rotate the right knob to show the model number, then continue rotating to display the serial number.
  5. Write down the full serial number (including all letters and digits).

Porsche CR-210

  1. Press the TONE button, then press 8 and 0 at the same time - "Becker" appears on the display.
  2. Press the station up arrow (right side) until "PR-VERS" (program version) appears.
  3. Press one of the numbered buttons under the display - the model number is shown.
  4. Press the station up arrow again until "SERIAL N" is displayed.
  5. Press the numbered button again to reveal your full serial number.

  2. Press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6 simultaneously.

  4. Hold the center button for about 3 seconds to confirm and lock the serial display.
Tip: Take a photo of the screen while the serial is displayed - these longer serials are easy to transcribe incorrectly.

Ford Travelpilot EX, NX, FX

  1. On the right side of the radio there is a small pull-out label (e.g. BP62034 596031) - pull it out to read the serial directly.
  2. Alternatively, press and hold SELECT on the right turn-wheel to enter the device info menu.
  3. Navigate through the menu to find device or system information.
  4. If the on-screen method does not work, the pull-out label on the right side of the housing is the reliable alternative.
If the screen shows "LOCKED 13", the radio has reached its lock-out limit and you will need to visit a Ford dealer to reset it.

  4. A 10-digit serial number will appear (e.g. U1234 L5678 or just 12345678).

Hold buttons 1 and 6, then power on the radio to display the serial.

  2. Power on the audio unit - if "CODE" is not displayed, remove the backup fuse for 1 minute, then retry.
  3. Turn the audio unit OFF.
  4. Press and hold the top halves of SEEK/SKIP and CH/DISC simultaneously, then press PWR/VOL.
  5. Two screens will appear: U#### (first 4 digits) and L#### (last 4 digits).
  6. Combine both sets for the full 8-digit serial number (ignore the U and L letters).

With Navigation (2008-2019) & Acura TSX (2004-2008)

  1. Press and hold CANCEL, MAP, and MENU simultaneously.
  2. Using the joystick, navigate to: Detail Information (not Self Diagnostic) → Unit CheckECU Information.
  3. The screen displays the Serial No.

Method 2: Physical Label Alternative

If none of the on-screen methods work for your Honda or Acura, the serial number is also printed on a sticker label on the radio unit itself. This requires removing the radio from the dashboard. • It typically includes a barcode and the serial number printed in plain text.
  • Accessing it requires removing the radio from the dashboard using trim removal tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. On-screen serial retrieval methods are model-specific. This guide covers Porsche (CR-220, CR-210, Traffic Pro), Ford (6000CD, 4500 RDS, Sony MP3, Travelpilot), Honda/Acura (with and without navigation), and Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep (Uconnect 8.4, 12, and 7-inch). Other brands may require physical radio removal to find the serial label.

No. Dealer Mode and Engineering Mode are built-in diagnostic features installed by the manufacturer. Accessing them is completely safe and read-only for information viewing. Dealership technicians use these same menus during regular service. Simply viewing the serial number cannot damage your radio or void your warranty.

Make sure the radio is completely off before you begin. Hold preset buttons 1 and 6 firmly, then turn the radio on while still holding them. If the serial doesn't appear, try turning the ignition to ACC position first. Some models require holding the buttons for up to 10 seconds. If this method fails, your Honda may need the navigation-specific method or a physical label check instead.

No. All Porsche on-screen methods require the radio to be powered on. The CR-220, CR-210, and Traffic Pro procedures all start with the unit turned on and involve pressing specific button combinations to enter service menus. If your radio is completely dead or unresponsive, you will need to physically remove it and read the serial label on the housing.

Ford serial numbers vary by radio model. The Ford 6000CD typically shows a V-serial (e.g., V123456) or M-serial (e.g., M123123). Ford Sony MP3 units display longer serials like SOCD6X8V404077 or FDC2005M136827. Travelpilot models show the serial on a label accessible from the right side of the unit. Always note the complete serial including all letters and numbers.

Once you have your radio serial number, visit FindRadioCode.com and enter it on the homepage. Select your vehicle brand, complete the checkout, and you will receive your radio unlock code instantly on screen and via email. The entire process takes less than 5 minutes.
