Can't Find Your Unit's S/N? Follow The Steps Below for Honda Accord 2016
The first step is locating the radio serial number.
Most people assume the code depends on the Honda model or year, but actually, the whole process relies on the unique radio unit's serial number.
Each radio has its own serial tied to the security system.
This is actually better, because if you have an aftermarket radio, the VIN or other Honda-specific data wouldn't be of much use.
Depending on the radio version used, you may be able to retrieve the serial directly from the display or by checking the label on the radio chassis.
2016 Honda Accord factory radio options
- LX (sedan) / LX-S (coupe): 160-watt AM/FM head unit (CD slot deleted on some configurations after the refresh) with four speakers (six on LX-S), USB and Bluetooth, paired with the standard 7.7-inch upper i-MID display - no in-dash touchscreen.
- Sport (sedan) / Sport SE: 7-inch Display Audio capacitive touchscreen with the same speaker count as LX/EX-class trims; HondaLink connectivity. (Some Sport configurations retained the simpler audio interface earlier in the model year - check the build sheet.)
- EX: 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen with the new Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support introduced in the 2016 refresh, HD Radio, Pandora and SiriusXM, plus HondaLink Assist (e911).
- EX-L: 360-watt premium audio with subwoofer plus the 7-inch Display Audio with CarPlay / Android Auto.
- EX-L with Navigation: Adds factory Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation, voice recognition and the larger 8-inch (high-resolution) display layout integrated with HondaLink.
- Touring (sedan): Flagship 8-inch Display Audio with navigation, voice recognition, HondaLink, HD Radio and the full Honda Sensing safety suite as standard.
Access Your Serial Number on the Radio Screen
Try the following for your 2016 Honda Accord:
The 2016 Honda Accord may be equipped with Honda's Display Audio system (8" depending on trim) or a base non-touchscreen radio. All versions support serial number display via the 1+6 button method:
- Turn ignition to ON. Wait for the radio to power up. The screen shows "CODE" if locked.
- Simultaneously press preset buttons 1 and 6 for about 5 seconds.
- The serial number appears in two halves (e.g.,
U3210+L0482).
Alternative: On 2016 Accord with the Display Audio touchscreen, look in Settings → System → Device Information – the serial may be displayed there without using the button combination.
Displaying the radio serial on a 2016 Accord
- LX with non-touchscreen head unit: Turn ignition to ACC, switch the radio off, then press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6 while pressing the power button. The display alternates between U-prefix and L-prefix 4-digit halves which combine into the 8-digit serial.
- Sport / EX 7-inch Display Audio (with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto): Power the unit on, tap Home > Settings > System (or System Settings) > System Information / Device Info. The unit serial number is listed on this page.
- EX-L Nav / Touring 8-inch Display Audio + Navigation: Same Settings > System > System Information path on the touchscreen interface.
- Dealer-mode "DISP + MODE" hold: Mentioned in some Honda service literature for HDA units, but not independently confirmed for every 2016 Accord variant - if needed, fall back on the Settings menu or pull the unit and read the chassis sticker.
- If the radio is locked on CODE and the menu cannot be reached: remove the head unit (see removal block) and read the 8-character serial directly from the printed label on the chassis.
Access it by Pulling Out the Radio Unit
If the serial does not appear on display, the next step is checking the radio itself.
Many Honda radios require physical access to the ID label attached to the unit.
Typical approach:
- Start by completely turning off the engine - pull the key out.
- Then remove the trim panel.
- Next, release the mounting points and pull the radio forward.
- Look for a barcode label showing the serial number.
If neither methods work on the 2016 Honda Accord:
- Power down the vehicle.
- Detach the center stack trim panel. The 2016 Accord's integrated dashboard uses plastic clips.
- For Display Audio models: Unscrew the mounting screws (Phillips-head) securing the display module.
- On base trims: Unscrew the 4 Phillips screws holding the radio unit.
- Pull the unit forward and find the serial on the label on the back or side.
Note: The Display Audio unit is larger and more tightly fitted than the standard radio. Take care when extracting it.
Removing the radio on a 2016 Honda Accord
- Safety first: Engage the parking brake, switch the ignition off, disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least three minutes before working - the 9th gen Accord routes SRS (airbag) wiring near the dash and centre console.
- Upper bezel: Starting at the rear (windscreen-side) edge, pry up the upper receiver trim panel with a plastic panel tool; release all ten retaining clips and lift the panel away, disconnecting any hazard-switch or sensor harness.
- Top screws: Remove the two Phillips screws exposed at the top of the receiver bezel.
- Console side trim: Pry out each console side trim panel by releasing five clips per side, starting from the rear.
- Console pocket: Remove the two Phillips screws securing the console pocket and lift the pocket out.
- Lower brackets: Unscrew the two 8 mm bolts holding the lower receiver brackets to the dash structure.
- Head unit: Pry the integrated assembly forward, releasing the six final retaining clips, and disconnect the wiring harnesses, antenna lead, USB extension, and (on EX-L Nav / Touring) the GPS antenna and external amplifier connectors before lifting it free.

Typical Radio Serial Prefixes and Formats
Based on the radio fitted to the 2016 Honda Accord:
U1234L5678– Standard Honda OEM formatHBM####– Used in Display Audio and navigation units913A####– Certain Alpine-manufactured radios
The 2016 Accord may have: base CD radio (U/L format), Display Audio 5"/7" (HBM format), or navigation unit (HBM format). All use a 5-digit unlock code.
Important Verify you record the serial number, not the part number (which starts with 39100, 39101, or similar Honda part coding).
2016 Accord radio serial format
- Honda 8-character alphanumeric radio serial.
- Display Audio units (Sport / EX / EX-L / Touring) print the serial as a single string on the chassis label, often beginning with U or M; transcribe it exactly as shown, ignoring spaces and dashes.
- Only the alphanumeric sequence is required when requesting the unlock code.
Code Entry Process for 2016 Accord
After receiving 2016 Honda Accord radio code from the serial, you're ready to reactivate the radio.
Some drivers hesitate at this stage because input methods can look different across radio versions, but it's usually easy.
When the radio shows dashed lines, it means the unit is waiting for the correct numbers.
The Correct Way to Enter It
To input the code on the 2016 Honda Accord:
- Ignition ON. Radio shows "CODE" or "ENTER CODE".
- Non-touchscreen models: Press preset buttons 1-5 to cycle to each digit, then press and hold button 6 to confirm.
- Display Audio touchscreen: An on-screen keypad appears. Tap each digit and press "Enter" or "OK".
Lockout: 3 wrong attempts trigger a 60-minute lockout. Keep ignition ON. Do not cycle the key or the timer starts over.
Entering the unlock code on a 2016 Accord
- LX (non-touchscreen): With CODE shown, press preset buttons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in order to enter each digit, then press preset 6 or the ENTER button to confirm.
- Sport / EX 7-inch Display Audio (with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto): A numeric keypad appears on the touchscreen at the CODE prompt - tap the five digits in order, then tap Enter or Done.
- EX-L Nav / Touring 8-inch Display Audio: Same touchscreen keypad, identical procedure - tap the five digits then OK / Done.
- If the code is rejected, the radio may lock input for ten minutes - leave the ignition in ACC, wait for the timer, and re-enter carefully.
Steps to Unlock Your 2016 Honda Accord Radio
To get the code, you'll take only 4 easy steps.
- Find your radio's serial - this is the only information required by our side.
Unlike when contacting the dealer, no VIN is needed. - When you've found the S/N, type it into the form above.
The system checks it against a database of supported radios and automatically finds the matching security code. - In most cases, the code appears instantly on the screen after you pay and is also sent to your email , just in case.
If we need to check it manually, you'll be informed before checkout. - When you receive the code, simply enter it into the radio to restore the functionality.
Troubleshooting Common Radio Problems - Accord 2016
The Display Audio era covers radios using multiple serial prefixes depending on which unit was fitted:
U####L####— base CD radio serial (10 characters, two halves).HBM####— Display Audio 5"/7" and navigation units.913A####— certain Alpine OEM configurations.
Part numbers printed nearby start with 39100 or 39101 — do not submit these. If uncertain, use the Settings → Device Information menu or the 1+6 button method to pull the serial directly from the unit.
If the Display Audio screen powers on but goes straight to the home screen without any "CODE" prompt, check the following:
- Anti-theft may not have triggered — some battery changes skip the lock if done quickly enough.
- Certain Display Audio units, the code prompt shows only on the audio portion of the screen, not the navigation display — wait a few seconds after startup.
- Try the Settings → System → Device Information route; should the serial appear, the unit may still be functional without a code.
Should none of the above match, a fuse check is the next step — a failed fuse prevents the radio from showing any display at all.
For Display Audio-era Honda radios, a rejected code most often means the serial was taken from the wrong source. Both the button method and the settings menu can produce the correct serial — verify that the serial you submitted was read off the radio unit and not from a sticker elsewhere in the car.
After one failed entry, stop and contact support before trying again — another incorrect entry brings you closer to the 60-minute lockout. A no-charge serial reverification can be done on request.
The Display Audio platform enforces the same 3-attempt lockout as earlier Honda radios. Recovery steps:
- Leave the ignition in ON or ACC — do not switch off.
- Allow the full 60-minute period. The touchscreen might dim during this time — this is expected.
- After 60 minutes, the radio re-displays "CODE" and you can.
On Display Audio touchscreen models, the lockout countdown runs in the background. Simply leave the vehicle running or the ignition on ACC until the timer expires.
Code entry depends on the specific radio in the 2014–2021 Accord:
- Non-touchscreen base radio: Press preset buttons 1–5 to scroll to each digit, then press and hold button 6 to confirm — identical to older Honda platforms.
- Display Audio 5" or 7" touchscreen: An on-screen numeric keypad appears when the code prompt is active. Enter the digits and press OK or Enter on screen.
If the touchscreen is unresponsive, attempt the physical preset buttons — certain units support either input method. Make sure the screen is fully booted before attempting entry.
Why Is the Radio Asking for a Code?
Honda's Display Audio system uses the same anti-theft design as earlier radios: losing battery power activates a code request at next startup. Applies to both the non-touchscreen radio and the Display Audio touchscreen.
- Battery replacement — by far the most frequent cause.
- Battery disconnect during repairs — any work that interrupts battery power will re-engage the lock.
- Completely dead battery — a drained battery also triggers the request.
Note: a number of higher-end Display Audio models from this era might not use a traditional code-based lock — if the radio never showed "CODE" after a battery change, it may use a different anti-theft method tied to the vehicle VIN.
